How it works

From your seed tin to a nearby garden

Seed Mate is a small, opt-in exchange for home-saved seeds between Australian gardeners. You choose what to list, what to look for, and who you swap with. Nothing about your garden or your address is public.

1. List what you have and what you want

Add packets to your Have list — variety, approximate quantity, when they were harvested, and whether you are offering them as a swap or a giveaway. Add the varieties you are hoping to grow to your Want list. Only your rough region (state and broad area) is shown to other members; your postcode and exact location stay private.

2. Get compatible matches nearby

When another member's Have overlaps your Want (or the reverse), you will see them as a potential match, sorted by a distance band — never a precise number of kilometres. You can review their listing and their approximate location before doing anything.

3. Mutual interest opens a private exchange room

When both members express interest, Seed Mate opens a private exchange room just for the two of you. Only inside that room, and only if you both agree, do postal or pickup details get shared — and those details are held temporarily and never exposed publicly.

Honest about what exists at launch

At launch, Seed Mate supports swaps and giveaways. Private sales are described in our roadmap but stay disabled until fee handling, disputes, and refunds are in place. When they turn on, they will be clearly labelled.
